I was able to get it done this weekend on some public land in Eastern ND! The buck is not brag worthy, but I'm so proud to have done the proper work scouting to put myself in the right position for an ethical bow kill.

I've listened to a bunch of podcasts about aggressive whitetail tactics and getting into the bedding areas without getting spooked. This of course made me an expert at finding these places and getting set up on them  I found a spot with a few beds and a small rub that were set up perfectly for a north wind and packed my stand in for a setup. With how many people hunt the place that I was in it was fairly hard to find a spot that there weren't any other tree stands or cameras in. But I got away from everyone else by not hunting typical habitat that everyone else was in.

The buck came in at 9:15am and gave me the perfect 20 yard broadside shot as he was getting to his bed.

Again, the antlers aren't huge, but I've never been more proud of a kill before. Everything worked out as I had planned, and I put an ethical shot on a great tasting buck. Not sure it gets much better than that!

Getting everything out in one load was a little tough, but the pack held up well. It definitely made the fresh tenderloins even more delicious once I made it home.

One would think that a man of 29 years would be able to figure out how to permanently rotate his pictures in Windows, but alas, I cannot. Apologies for some sideways pictures.

Dandy buck! The trophy is more the hunt than the results! My first bow kill was a forky and he's on the wall. He still is one of my favorite hunts. How'd the new treestand work?

I've been loving it! I actually just did an update on my old post over in the "other products" section. It's just light enough to strap on the back of my pack without being too cumbersome.

I think more people need to go back to hunting just for the love of hunting, not just chasing large antlers for the wall. If you're passionate about it, the antlers will come with time. Congrats!

Congratulations Ben. That's a great buck and story to share.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty proud of him! Just finished eating up the last of the tenderloins today for lunch. On to the heart for breakfast burritos tomorrow.
