dropping a $1000 to Colorado this week

Don't most cards then deduct the points for any credits? I know my cards do that.

With Colorado I pay with the card and they return the refund in a check. Of course they get the "float".... but rates of recent yrs that didn't mean much.

Be Safe,

Yep - and when you then use that check to pay your CC bill, you keep any points gained from the transaction. In states like NM (and others), they refund your card directly, which counts as a 'Return' transaction so the points gained are then removed.

Note: 'points' in this parlance means airline miles, or credit card loyalty program points (Amex Membership rewards, Citi ThankYou points, etc) - has nothing to do with preference/bonus points
