Dove 2026

When did you plant your brown top?
I planted end of June and it didn’t mature as early as I had hoped. I was really hoping to be able to burn it without bush hogging it.

I planted the second week in June this year and experienced the same thing. I planted the last full weekend in May this year and killed it all with spray 2 weeks ago and burned it Sunday. I wanted to burn a week ago but I was gator hunting.

I will say that next year I am going to build a crimp roller and run that over the field, then spray it, then wait 2 weeks, then burn it.

Even though I sprayed it, I still had to run the brush hog over the thing afterwards to knock the higher weeds down and that really sucked with all that ash flying everywhere while wearing a mask looking like a city dwelling covid freak.....

Slash had fun with our limit yesterday, but it was getting hot by the end. Back at it in a couple hours.

Sometimes you get excited and overrun that bird. :D

Stopped by Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife area in northern Indiana as I was passing through. Very helpful young lady at the field office.
Walked 4 of the managed fields, no hunters in any. Jumped up a decent number dove and put a few in the bag.
Will stop on the way home unless I'm at my possession limit. 🙂

It's been mighty slow here in southeast Indiana. High temps & humidity contributing to pop up thunderstorms seem to have the doves mess up. Cold front coming through tonight which always seems to turn them off. I'll hit the field in the morning & likely head towards home with a stop along the way for an afternoon hunt.

Had the puppy out for her first hunt yesterday. Got a couple retrieves in but kept it short due to the heat. 20260904_192002.jpg

Went out again today with the whole family. Ended up finding a great spot intercepting the birds on the way to water.

We will have a few nights of poppers and my son insists on keeping the hearts from every animal. He cooks them up himself. 20260905_210205.jpg
