There has just been a flurry of quakes with the strongest being 3.9 about 50 air miles away. I never felt them but Sam our older dog goes off barking while Cooper never flinched. There was a study somewhere about dogs and earthquakes a long time ago. We used to have a dog that would get very agitated moments BEFORE a quake.

We’ve had two in the last week. Last one was Saturday I think mid to upper threes about 3 miles from the center of it. Our dog just kinda looked around like wtf woke me up.

I think they can hear and feel it before we do. Kind of like when someone comes up the driveway. I had the dogs look around before I felt earthquakes.

Two types of waves - P waves (faster) and S waves. I think the theory is that pets feel the P waves while we generally don't, we don't feel much until the S waves arrive. I could be wrong about that.

I've had one earthquake in the 4-5 range in western MT since I've had my dog and he slept through it. He didn't react at all until I jumped up out of my chair.
