Dog Crap

Alright guys, I need some suggestions for a dog crapping problem. Two neighbors have dogs on my street and every single friggin' day, the dogs come over and take their dumps around the mailbox or around the start of the driveway. The neighbors let their dogs run free so I'm not sure how likely it would be that I could convince them to be with their dogs when they are outside. How the heck do I get them to stop crapping on my property? Anything I can spray to keep them away? What are my options?

Your town probably hash leash laws and/or laws pertaining to dogs running at large. Call them up and remind them you are tired of this, you will be reporting them. Or, wait for the dogs at the mailbox, snatch them up and haul them to the pound. Then tell them where and why their dog is at the pound.

You could always scoop it up and throw it on their doorstep. I bet you don't have to wait long before the problem is solved.

Thanks, draht. The other thing I forgot to mention is the damn dogs pinch their loaves at hours I have no idea about...must be late at night or early in the morning. The crap isn't there when I get home at night but it's there when I leave in the morning for work.

Sucks! But join the group. Some people just DO NOT care.I have actually gone out while somebody walking their dog in the morning let them dump in my yard. After a very polite, but stern conversation they walk them on the other side of the street to crap in neighbors yards. Being kind of hothead about things like this I wanted to pick up the offerings and dump it on their front door step. Other problem is neighbors' cats they let out in the mornings. My wife spends a lot of time working in her flower beds and always seems to end up with a *steamer* stuck to her gloves. During this time of year anyplace they can find to dig gets messed up real fast. Can't wait until I get asked to clean out flower beds.

I have had the same problems in Oklahoma. Unfortunately around here if you are out of the city lifts there are no leash laws. Just walked outside and had two cats under my truck. I have had them climb on my truck and scratch the paint all to hell. I'm thinking of leaving a nice puddle of antifreeze out for them to sip on and hopefully fix the problem.

The problem I see with leaving the poop on their doorstep is if they see you do it you could propably get in trouble for trespassing. At least that's they way stuff like that works out for me. Not to metion the next time you are gone you never know what type of retaliation they will attempt.

Maybe setting up a live trap in the yard might work. You could always claim it was for the coon that was getting into the trash or something like that.

I wonder if a dog would stay away if it was nailed with paintballs. I guess I could stay up and snipe the little bastards. This is a non-lethal way to scare them away but I don't know if it would last or how long I'd have to do it to make them remember to stay away. It would be great if I could just spray something around the crapping areas that they hate.

Paintballs work...the dogs learn quickly and the owners get the idea as well when their dog comes home with a big orange circle. :D

trail cam those beasts and shw the owners. AS you are not seeing it happen are you CERTAIN it is the dogs across the street.

Simply speak to them, and kindly ask them to come take a look and suggest it would be nice if they made a point of checking and picking up their crap daily, now that they suddenly leanred of the problem ;). problem solved if they are good neighbors.

The dog is in a habit of unloading in the same spot. Break the habit. Usually when the dog smells a pile it will send a signal for him/her to unload.

If you don't want confrontation with the owners. Remove ALL of the old pooh and place ammonia soaked cotton balls or black pepper(if weather is dry) in the area the dogs are unloading. I would say a bottle of cheap perform would even work.

If you ever noticed while out hunting, when you see a pile of coyote waste there will probably be several piles. From very old to really fresh. The coyote is in a daily routine, traveling the same route, when he comes to the waste pile and smells it, the signal is sent to unload.

Or you could try the sign,, lol
I laugh everytime I see these. I know tit is intended for the owner but most likely the dog is on it's own when he unloads in the favorite spot.

I had a friend of mine tie a note to the dogs collar with a luggage tag explaining the issue. Three days later the dog was back. The next time he found some rope and tied the dog to his mailbox.
The dog was there for the better part of a day before the owner came and got it. He never had a problem again...

Had the same problem with a next door neighbor. He had this stupid bird dog which he'd turn loose to run because he was too lazy to exercise it. Dog would crap in my back yard all the time and when I found a pile I'd slip a sharpshooter shovel under it and sling the offending item over into his garden. After this went on for longer than I could bear, I confronted the neighbor about it and he promptly bowed up and informed me that his dog doesn't crap in my yard; "he craps in my garden!" I thought I'd choke trying to keep from laughing and telling him how that got into his garden. Neighbors; you gotta love them.

Just leave out a couple of meatballs soaked in antifreeze. Should cure the problem ;)

Just talk to them first. It can't hurt. If they deny it, I think the trail cams are a great idea. Show up with photo proof and it might freak them out a little.

Just don't do something stupid, like poisoning the dogs.

Best suggestion I see as well. Talk to the owners of the offending beasts and if that does not work call the city. I do like the idea of snatching them and taking them to the pound, but it's not the dogs fault, it's they have a crappy owner.

With it being winter I don't like the trying them to the post, but after winter....well lets say I might try that one. :) Poisoning animals is just silly to mention, unless they are cats... :)

I"ve heard a sign that reads something to the effect of: "Lawn treated with pesticide, please keep animals safe" tends to work really well. People get all freaked out for the wellfare of their animals and take action. If that doesn't work I recommend taking a dump in the yard of the perpetrators.

I've seen animals die from antifreeze, not a pretty site. The dog is only doing what comes naturally. Go to the owner first. If he's a jerk about it( probably will be), then go to the proper authority. Most towns have leash laws.

I have a POS neighbor who was to lazy to walk his dogs. Just let them out in the yard then they would jump the fence and run everywhere. We didn’t say anything to him about it. Then I had to spend 3 months watching my destroyed and sad wife because they killed her fuggin cat in our own yard. I thought of everything in the world to kill those bastards, but in the end my sobbing wife telling him was enough. I guess my point is to tell them about. People are generally only concerned about themselves and they probably have zero idea what their dogs are doing.

Saw the one dog was later at the pound. For some reason the wife wouldn’t let me go and adopt it. She is a softy.

Trail cam and tell the owner the next time it happens he is going to find out what dog shit tastes like.

Even if you are outside city limits, most counties have laws about dogs roaming around without being under immediate control of an owner.

My friend is a sheriff deputy, he tells me to try to solve issues on your own first, if they blow you off or give you any lip, then call.
