This pheasant has a death wish, it's always feeding on the road, and I saw it again this morning.
On the pheasant shoots around here there is usually a $75 fine for the one who shoots it.
I reckon it will get run over before it gets shot.
Cheers

As in white?
I have seen pictures of white ones before but never in person. Cool picture.
Our pheasants all will run before flying, flying seems to be a last chance thing.
It could be like ore ptarmigan and blend into the snow up here.

Looks like a Ptarmigan rather than a pheasant! Never seen an all white bird like that over here. Have seen a few mounts where the hen is a mix of white and brown.

Naturally occurring, I imagine it's pretty rare. But in the poultry world you can order them just like any other pheasant. In pheasant clubs they often release one like it or a melanistic bird and call it the money bird. The guy who shoots it gets the pot back at the clubhouse. Some states, like MT, don't allow them to be released anymore.

They usually don't last long. Quite vulnerable to raptors for obvious reasons. I am sure it is a cultivated albino that's been released. That would explain the stupid behaviour. Sometimes those released farm raised birds are so dumb they have to be kicked in the air for the shooter. Seldom more than 20% survive two weeks in the wild.

It does look like a Ptarmigan, and yes it is a bred and released pheasant for shooting, but I haven't seen many.
Lovely looking bird, and quite tame.

We also have some Albino red and fallow deer in the area, I'm not a fan of the white deer, it just attracts poachers who wouldn't normally see the other deer.

Cheers

Richard
