Do I really need chains?

OK, I should always listen to my gut. Against my better judgement I bought a set of cable chains. Figured it would make the wife happy, and IF anything happened I would have a little extra help for traction. Just now went out to put them on for practice and a trial fit. No way they will work. Just can't get them connected. I tried about everything to get enough slack pulled over to make the last connection. Double-checked the part number and it was correct for my tires. So now I have a useless set of cables. Lesson learned. Save the money and use it for a room. Think I said that earlier!

Made it up, over, and down Wolf Creek Pass today in the snow. Not a problem. No chains and left it in 2 wheel drive. Scenery was whatever we could see within about 200 yards, but driving was fine. On to Jackson!

Mine go in the 4Runner in October and stay through May.

What do you do about the fronts? I drive a 4runner and have been thinking about spacers to get clearance.
