Sometimes it will amaze you what a heavier/longer bullet does to a smaller bullet when you get out to 400 yards or more. Out to 300, there is not enough difference to care. The higher BC will show more the farther you are shooting. Velocity is not everything.

A 260 is a prime example. It shoots a long, thin bullet and ballisics are better for it than a .308 when you get to long distances. It just depends on what you want from your bullet.

In a .308 caliber if you can get 150 fps more velocity out of a165gr bullet than a 180 the 180 will never overtake the 165

In a 300wsm that velocity difference is highly likely
