I have been wanting to do a self guided black bear hunt in Idaho and was wondering if anyone had any tips or areas to research? any help is greatly appreciated!

I'll be driving up and down the highways of central ID March-May. I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya!!

Where are you wanting to hunt? North, South? Calling the fish and game office for that region will be your best bet. Research the area a bit before you call though.

There are a lot of bears just about everywhere in idaho. just spend the time behind the glass and put in some days and you should find some.

The Frank is a good area too. Lots of bears and i believe those units are a 2 bear unit. snow shouldnt be much of a problem this year.

I've lived in the North Fork area the past two summers. I don't really look for them, but they seem to find me when I'm out hiking or working. People there don't seem to take them very seriously - more of a common novelty. Not very big animals, but easy to find if you put in some time looking. Real nice pretty chocolate coats on most of them. Not very smart.

I LOVE North Fork and the surrounding country. The $1.50 I've spent there a few times for a shower were well worth the price of admission!
