Big Agnes changed their fabric for 2025 and added the XL sizes to the Copper Spur line.

I picked up a 2024 Copper Spur UL3 today on blowout at a local retailer. There are even better deals on eBay, but I always seem to need a tent right now.
My Seedhouse SL3 is in for factory repairs and Memorial Day is calling. I'm headed out for a do-over of my failed May trip from last year.

Everything is packed to roll out at zero dark thirty. Rock pit stop to zero the new scope on the 358 and then I will be at the trailhead by noon. Four miles in and bivvy the first night. Four more on day two. Some cutty fishing in the afternoon. I will come out the full 8 miles on day 3. Camp at the trailhead that night. Day four is so I don't have to rush home. I will do some spotting for bears.

Packing the heavy bag, its still cold up there at night.

I went with the UL 3 man for my solo trips also. Room inside for me and gear. Seams it's always wet outside. The extended Fly is a big plus.

Got back home tonight from NoTellum Creek. The USFS signage says 12 miles each way. OnX track said 10.33 miles and 1500 vertical feet of elevation change.
Not sure how it felt like uphill both ways.

I didn't weigh my pack. I will have to weigh it tomorrow and post.

I crashed and burned for health reasons trying this same trip exactly 12 months ago. It was a real big deal for me to complete it solo this year.

The new Copper Spur performed flawlessly.

No bears, but two mature bull elk on the drive in.

I picked up a C Bar 3 last week on sale. Retiring the old hubba hubba for a little more room. Haven't put it on the scales but with all the waterproofing slathered on the hubba hubba over the years, it feels about the same weight.

I weighed the pack when I unloaded the truck this morning. 50 lbs.

I guess I'm still working out the "Ultralight Backpacking" thing.

That's a nice discount on the UL3. Wish I had a larger budget.
When I was raising my family it was WalMart tents and car camping. The real secret to getting a name brand tent for a good price is to plan ahead.
Anything you need last minute is going to cost you more.

Watch eBay and Geartrade religiously and set alerts for when what you want comes up.
