CVA accura sight recommendations

I drew a muzzleloader elk tag in New Mexico so I'm looking for open sight recommendations. I'm currently shooting a CVA Accura LR with a scope, so I have no experience with open/peep sights, besides shooting a .22lr.

From reaching out to muzzleloaders.com and online research, I've narrowed it down to the following:

Williams western precision sight for simplicity. Elevation adjustment but no windage. I'm not sure how easy it is to adjust the elevation.

or

CVA micro-adjust long range peep sight (also made by williams) This has windage and elevation adjustments and looks very easy to use. It has the same 6 reticles to choose from for the front globe.

or

Something I'm missing entirely? maybe a front globe with a fiber optic insert. I'm just worried an insert will cover too much of the target.

I was shopping around the other day for a site for a Optima and almost pulled the trigger on the CVA one.

I've got the Williams set on my Remington 700 Ultimate and like it quite a bit, but the crosshair insert is a little too fine for my eyes. I'd be upgrading to the fiber optic post insert if I wasn't selling the rifle off. Williams' .019 reticle seems like it would be about right out to 200-ish. You aren't going to be taking a 400 yard poke with an iron-sighted muzzleloader.

I have the MR, same collapsible ram rod. It's not bad, but I'm glad to have a dedicated range rod.

I imagine I could get by with just the collapsible one by pulling the breech plug and say pushing a charge/bullet all the way through rather than needing to pull, same with cleaning.

As slow as field reloads are with a muzzleloaders, add another little bit of time to get the rod together.

You’re on the right track. Globe front sight is great, essentially making it a non-magnified 1x “scoped” weapon from a sight picture standpoint. Non-field adjustable rear peep sight for 0-150 yards. If you want to shoot over 150 then get the adjustable rear sight.

I just received my Williams western precision for our NM hunt this year. Will let you know how it works for me.

Killed my first bull 23 years ago in CO with regular buckhorn sights on a musket. But relatively short 125 yard shot.

Took a musket on CO antelope hunt in ‘18 with fiber optic buckhorns and it totally messed me up. Out in the sun the fibers were so bright they washed out bad and I couldn’t focus on the sights at all. Ended up blacking them out with a sharpie halfway through the hunt but never got anymore shot opportunities.

Going to install the hooded front and reticle peep and see how they shoot. Little worried about the hooded front in low light, so may end up going unhooded fiber on the front and the reticle peep in the back.

It's the old model with the full-length ram rod that stores under the barrel. I bought it the year before the collapsible ram rod and adjustable cheek piece came out

I put a williams peep sight on my accura, accuracy is great but the stock keeps me from being able to get my eye low enough comfortably.

Definitely not shooting 400! I'm thinking 150 or less with open sights, it depends on how well i can see and shoot.

I have played around with four sets of peeps over the years.

My current setup is on a Accura LR. I have a Williams Ace In The Hole which is a pic rail with a built in peep. I am using the factory fiber optic sight. I gave up on globes. I found that I didn’t shoot it any better and had a hard time getting the front sight bright enough. My eye has no problem centering the front open fiber sight and it is much brighter than the globe sights. Plus I didn’t like how much the big globe covered on longer shots. And the big globe catches on brush more. It was never a problem but worth noting.

I also have a Leupold Freedom with Leupold QR rings on the rail. I use the scope when legal and switch to open sights when not. I also have a load worked up for the sights that is CO legal and then a different load for the scope setup. The QR rings return the scope to zero to the point I don’t even need to check zero (but I always do.
