I was at Steven Dodd Hughes’ shop talking custom guns and he showed me a rifle that he had started several years ago. Steven is a very accomplished gun maker and he does exceptional work and specializes in single shots.

This is a Winchester low wall in 22 K Hornet that he was working on before Covid hit several years ago and due to failing health, he wasn’t able to complete. I bought it and have taken it to another gun maker to finish the project.

I have also talked to Jim at Montana Vintage Arms and will get a scope and mounts from him to finish the project. Rocky estimated middle of summer finish date….

School me on the 22 K Hornet vs the 22 Hornet please…

I’ve never heard of 22 K Hornet
The K Hornet is a 22 Hornet with the long tapered case, blown out to a bottle neck that allows a couple more grains of powder.

Not much gained in velocity, but a gain of 150-200 fps…

That’s an awesome project—starting with work from Steven Dodd Hughes makes it really special. Good call having another maker finish it properly, and going with Montana Vintage Arms will suit the rifle perfectly.
