Coyote snaring

It depends on several factors. Here in MO once the ground is frozen I anchor them with an 18 inch rebar stake. If you do this you want to add a swivel since the one you anchor through will be out of commission because of the anchor. Before I drive my stake I wrap my number 9 support wire around my stake. I am not a big numbers coyote guy but I catch several a year with snares and footholds. If the ground is not frozen I would use a 24 inch stake or a wolf fang earth anchor or something similar.

Use earth anchors if possible, or at least good re-bar stakes. If you are in the woods, then you could secure it to a tree. Put a 6-8-foot extension on the snare so that the coyote gets a running start before he hits the end. Make the loop 12 inches around and about 12 inches off the ground. Go get your knife ready!

I like to set them on fence lines so I usually use the fence as an anchor.
Since you are asking about anchors I'm going to assume you're fairly new to trapping. keep in mind that what you catch in a snare will likely be dead. For this reason be very mindful of where you set snares and the potential non-target catches in those areas. If you are worried at all about catching someone's dog or other non-target animals then that's not the right place for a snare use a foothold in that situation if anything at all.
The future of trapping is on the shoulders of the guys who are setting the traps.

All of this advice depends on which state you are from as well. Cable restraints here in MO with no entanglement. It sucks but that's what we have to work with.
Well, I live in Ohio. I think I am going to use double ended clips and secure it around a tree, and or fence posts. Just got some good advice on Modern Trapping Part 5, Intro to snares and snaring on youtube. Pretty informative for a me as yes I am a beginner, but just for coyotes. Bastards put a dent into deer in my area....Some how my seat cushion from deer stand came off and saw one of the sob's eating it on the ground and three of them passed behind me, while trying to hunt the rut.. Thanks for replies fellas.
