Gastro Gnome - Eat Better Wherever

Commercial Backpacking meals

I used a dehydrator and did spaghetti sauce. Used parchment paper and spread the sauce thin. I cooked hamburger and dehydrated that as well. I bought the small blue bags of pasta that were tortellini I think at the grocery store. Poured boiling water over the pasta and let it steep while boiling a bit more water to hydrate the sauce and burger. (hydrate the burger first as it takes longer). Pour water off pasta and add sauce. Last trip I made I had food for a week (maybe more) in one bag and it weighed in at 10 pounds. Heaviest thing in the bag was a couple of cans of spam.

Lots of DIY meal ideas on backpacking web sites.
