Took a friend out late Sunday to avoid the craziness of opening weekend. Only saw a group of about 10 just off the ranch we hunt on. Monday took my son out and one of the small bucks from the group had wandered onto the ranch. It took us about an hour to get on him but my son made the 140 yard shot and dropped him in his tracks

Yesterday my friend and I went again we passed some lopes out in an open area that's hard to get to them and drove on to the back where we had seen the bigger group a couple days prior. Hiking up the hill finally spotted 1 loner about 400 yards away. We didnt really have any cover from where we spotted him but eventually worked our way to around 150 yards and he made a hard quartering shot. the buck ran about 100 yards and fell over. This was his first big game animal. Hes got an elk tag for next week and a plains deer tag at the end of the month so it's a great start
