Dropped off my youngest at school this morning and went and did a little drive by turkey scouting on a area I haven't been to yet. Found 2 separate flocks a few miles apart, but both groups sure seemed to know where the private land was.

The highlight of the short trip though was a black pheasant I saw (no picture). Never seen one before. At first I thought it was a small turkey, but it was definitely a pheasant. Someone must have released it, and it appears to be doing pretty well.

Turkeys get reputation for being dumb but when it comes to survival, They are a lot smarter then people give them credit for. What is really a bugger is that it is really hard to get them to cross a fence, while calling. They always seem reluctant to fly over.

Any chance of getting access? Good luck if you do, if not hopefully there is public land close by and you pull them off for a shot.

There is public within a few hundred yards up and down the road to where these pictures are taken.

I did have my gps with the landowner chip in it, and it gives a landowner name that is a trust. I will have to spend some time to figure out how to find out who you can contact from that. I would assume the county assessor website might be some help.

There is a lot of land in my general area that is held in a trust. Not really sure what it means besides maybe several family members own it?
