"Colorado ranchers would have to use non-lethal wolf deterrence measures to be eligible for state compensation if their livestock is killed by the predators under a bill introduced Wednesday afternoon in the state legislature.

Non-lethal deterrence tools include hanging flags, using flashing lights, blasting sounds and deploying guard dogs under House Bill 1375.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Tammy Story, D-Evergreen, would also set aside an unspecified amount of funds to help ranchers pay for the non-lethal tools.

“I’m hoping it will ensure that livestock owners commit to utilizing non-lethal coexistence tools in order to protect their herd and their livelihood,” Story said in an interview with The Vail Daily. “At the same time, it provides gray wolves a fighting chance to establish and thrive here in Colorado.”

Not sure how valued a NR comment would be though Residents, would be a good one to share opposition to your representatives.

Colorado seems to be taking center stage for breaking ground and increasing national/international $ raising newsletters.

Colorado is trending as the push to expand various directions legislative, metro city slicker ballot box biology, injunctions...

When national and international are collectively targeting a State, our hunt conservation national voices and $ need to assist.

They took the lazy way out instead of working to ensure their decision-making remains "visible" and otherwise open to the people they work for. Guess they forgot who they work for. I hope other states don't start trying this.

I hope so. It prob has a tough time getting through the Senate. We will probably see it again though.

As for the bill that exempts the legislature from the Colorado Open Meetings law and strips away transparency in the General Assembly, it passed and was quickly signed by the Gov.

It is great that it will not pass, but terrible that it was ever introduced.

Thiis is the obvious outcome. There is purpose to Tammy Story's Bill that she, herself knows will not pass. Her interest to see amendments made and build more "support" via amended "co-sponsorers". It's one more small jab to continue the jabs. And if anyone thinks she is doing this of her own thought... Think again. Lobbyists play this as part of the long game. Mid term animal advocate game played - Hold anything to steer away from 10j ability to kill wolves. And this is likely one simple step in a much bigger political play.
