CO Elk 1st Season Rifle - Unit 14

Me and 2 buddies are coming from Louisiana, we are experienced hunters and coming to attempt our first Western hunt. We will not be able travel to CO to do any scouting before. Just by looking at Google Earth we are planning on the Northern part of the unit, hoping to get away from others by going in deep. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Shot my first and only Elk (a cow) during first rifle in unit 14. Hunted unit 14 four times. Three times just north of Steamboat and once near Clark. The more snow the better it was for the areas we hunted.

I've hunted that unit twice but never in that part of the unit. I've never had trouble getting away from people.
