Anyone ever hunt this unit for deer.I'm looking at a 3rd season hunt this year and narrowed it down to 681 or 62.I have some imfo on 62 but wanted to see if anyone hunted 681 3rd rifle and how their hunt went.Looks to be a lot less pressure in 681 as far as deer hunters but it is otc for elk.Only have a couple days to make final decision. Also,I am only looking for a deer above 160".I had a decent Wy tag I ate last year due to not finding a big enough buck.If you ever hunted unit 62 in 3rd season I'd also be interested in your experience. Not looking for specific spots, just your over all view of the hunt and if you'd hunt it again
Thanks

I live in montrose and hunted unit 62 when I was younger, but on public land there is a lot of pressure. A 160" buck will be tucked away in a deep dark Canyon from September to December lol. Best of luck to you.

I'll have to try and find that canyon then.I put in for unit 62 3rd season and will draw it.Whats a reasonable size buck in there?I plan to go over maps and try and figure out where I can get away from hunting pressure. What would you consider a shooter in the unit
thanks

Not much help with the draw decision, but I'm going to archery hunt 681/68 for elk this year and we plan to camp down there a bunch this summer as well to scout for that. I'll let you know what the deer situation looks like. I've been all around the borders of those units the last 20 years, but I've not spent much time actually in them so am excited to check it out.

Edit: missed the part that you put in 62. Good luck there! Happy to share 681 Intel in any event...

It seems a lot of the deer have come out of the high Country and into the hay fields. They have closed a lot of the roads up there so that might help. If you have good boots or a horse, ruebadoe (probably miss spelled lol) Canyon might be a good place to look. Get on the rims and glass. If you can get a shot on a 140 class you might want to take it, not to say there aren't bigger bucks but are few and far between. Good luck.

Thanks, at least I know a reasonable expectation.I'll probably stay entire season, and find as many bucks as possible to look over.I'm use to hiking a long ways.I guessing most deer hunters are road hunting or very close to them. Its that reasonable to assume??Does Co allow you to change your application before the deadline.I'm still researching 681
