I used to be a hardcore Mt.Dew drinker...probably averaging over 60 oz a day at least 5 days a week. While making the 13 hour drive from my hometown back to queen city on Memorial Day of this year I decided that I was done with soda. So, I quit cold turkey. The only lapses I've had in 2 months is about 6 oz of sprite on a hot fishing afternoon, two sips of coke at a movie and two sips of Mt.Dew to wash down pizza a couple of weeks ago. So I literally went from consuming over 300 oz a week to having maybe 12 oz in the last 2 months. Anyway...

Tonight I got a raging headache (don't think it was withdrawal headache, got over those in the first two weeks), the wife tosses me a bottle of Excedrin Migraine of which I took 2 with a glass of water and went to bed. I laid in bed for a good 2 hours, eyes wide open staring into the near darkness. Finally I couldn't take it so I got up and started catting around the house, not a habit I have (usually when my head hits the pillow I am out til morning). I just looked at the excedrin bottle and discovered that each of those little geltabs contains 65 mg of caffiene fora grand total of 130 mg. Compare that to a 12 ounce can of good ole Mt. Dew which contains a paltry 54 mg of caffiene.

What I don't understand is that before I quit drinking soda I could have chugged a liter of dew, brushed my teeth and been sleeping w/in 10 minutes. Now, being subjected to the caffiene has me up and VERY alert at 3:30 in the morn. I guess it doesn't take the body very long to lose its tolerance.

Since I have been working a long night shift I had been consumimg quite a bit a coffee each night. With recent health issues I went cold turkey and went to gatorade instead. 4 days into it my body was hurting bad until I went and drank 2 cups of coffee. So I have a couple cups about 3 am each work night. Then I went 3 days with only about 8 hours sleep total. At least there have been no headaches:p

I have a buddy that takes Excedrin with him on long hunting trips where no pop is available for that reason. Fortunately Even though i drink alot of pop if I go cold turkey for a 7 day sheep hunt or a 10 day AK moose hunt I never get the headaches.... but the pop sure tastes good when I come out.

I am experiencing another cranium thumper today...probably due to lack of sleep.

When I gave up the caffiene it took several days for the withdrawals to kick in, but when they did I was a bear. Headaches from the time I woke to the time I went to sleep and I got the tremors pretty bad a couple of days. There were days the headaches were bad enough that I nearly resided myself to thinking that being oversugared and overweight was better than being caffiene/sugar free.

I had a really bad headache last fall - Dr thought it was an aneurysm. I didn't think to look at the Excedrin Migraine bottle before taking it, and ended up OD'ing on it. After that, I would get a bad migraine every day at about noon. Finally, 4 months later, the neurologist cut me off all caffeine for a month - including as little as chocolate. I am fine now, but that was a miserable 4 months. Good luck to ya. As Bill would say - I feel your pain.

Smalls I am going through the same thing sort of.
I used to drink about 2 12 packs of coke a day easy. did it for years and years.
tried to quit when a buddy of mine started having heart, cholesteral and salt problems.
I couldnt sleep. but i did cut down on cokes to about 2-3 per day, started drinking gatorade its higher in salt content, I would piss like a race horse and gained 10lbs.
slowly tried to drink lots of cokes again, after 5 I get kinda burned out on them, but I lost 10 lbs and I am back to 202.6

Now I just mix it up a few cokes some gatorade and lots of ice tea still having a problem sleeping, if I dont have ice or cokes I get the shakes while in bed,and sleep restless. if I have too much coke more than 5-6 per day the same happens.
I then tried Ice tea instead of both gatorade and cokes.

I do smoke and have cut back on that as well.
