California X10 deer tag (new hunter)

Hey how's it going everybody? Myself and CMAWBRA were lucky enough to draw X10 tags for this upcoming season. We're both new to deer hunting, and hunting in general, so this will be our first deer hunt. We're also military and grew up together in Colorado, so unfortunately we're not very familiar with California terrain nor do we know many hunters who are. We hit the jackpot finally being stationed in the same state and then pulling a premium tag for our first season, and as such are hoping to capitalize and be as prepared as possible for when September hits.

If anyone on here is familiar with X10 we would really appreciate any tips, advice, stories about the area as well as just deer hunting tips for boot hunters.

Looks like a pretty solid community here so looking forward to pouring over a ton of posts/archives and learning as much as possible.
