Headed to north central Idaho this Friday for an archery deer and elk hunt. Focus will be on Elk but good to have the deer tag in the pocket.

Just made the move to western Wyoming this past December, so I’m on my year waiting period for resident tags. The elk activity around the house has definitely picked up with the weather change this week. It makes it hard to wait for the hunt watching and listening to the elk daily.

Phone service will be spotty but will try and update the thread as much as possible. Good luck to you all and be safe!

Well day one was Saturday (9/12) with our travel day and getting base camp set. Luckily no major issues.

Sunday (9/13)-Got after it early driving in on motorcycles about 3 miles and set up a spike camp. Finally began hunting about 2pm. Immediately bumped a cow right out side spike camp. Then located about 5 wallows and several rubs but no bugles or action.

Monday (9/14) Day started about 630 with walking the main ridge line bugling, again with no responses. After about two miles, we glassed three bucks, on being a nice 20” by 20” 4x4. A stalk produced negative results. At approximately 2pm while on mile 6, we worked to the bottom of the main canyon, Tyler spots a bull feeding at the creek bottom, unaware of our presence. After a quick round table, the decision was made to stalk in on the bull. Well Tyler was able to get within 72 yards and let one fly. “Thawak!” Bull runs 15 yards and piles up.
