Any opinions about the use of Permethrin or other bug repellants on the olfactory senses of our prey?

I use scent free DEETS stuff or "No Stinking Bugs" in earth scent....stuff just smells like dirt. I have had does smell me sitting & just walk off. Literally stick their noses at me & smell.
I rarely need it in NM now but CA had tons of bugs waiting to eat you.
I tried some permethrin stuff in past with some luck...DEETS works,but is not good for you. I am a skeeter magnet & ticks soon follow.
I have had to use it for pinion gnats here in NM. They are basically no-see-ums that are around in early summer here. Get a few skeeters & they find me...lol
Very rare bugs are an issue in fall in NM. At least in SW NM.

Early season I use Sawyers on my clothes for ticks and a thermacell with a fresh earth wafer when needed. I try to set up with the wind in my favor no mater what. They may smell your repellent they will for sure smell you.

Permethrin for clothes is great, nearly scent free after it dries. For skin, I use picaridin. It also dries scent free and works longer than deet. Sawyer makes a really good picaridin spray.
