Breaking a hound that chews at the tree?

I can handle to breaking off from running trash and barking in the box. But I have never found the secret to break a hound from chewing at the tree? Any suggestions, besides getting a limb! (That never worked for me)

Dont worry about it as long as he's not chewing on another dog or starting a fight. Just give him a smack now and again when he's doing it and see if it takes. If you have to have him stop, try sicking him on the tree, getting him barking, then praise him. If he aint barking (other words, is chewing) he dont get any praise. Smack, point up the tree, egg him on, praise him again when he starts treeing.

We've had dogs that chewed at the tree, but its never been a problem.

We have had a couple tree chewing dogs over the years but I never really thought anything about it! I had one that climbed the tree using limbs in his mouth as a ladder! I guess I never had one that was obviously bad at it! I wouldnt know how to cure a bad one!bcat

Put some Redman chewing tobacco in his jaw after you get to the tree.He will turn green and think it was from the tree.
