Pretty solid tip right there!I usually just sneak up and shoot them.
Most of my adjusting is just to how other hunters carelessly hunt. The elk arent really any different than they were, they just get different variables from strange hunters. Like the guys who bugle from the parking area for 20 minutes at 2pm then drive to the next public land plot. Being around elk, they tend to mostly take it realy quiet on the calling. 2 or 3 1/4 Mews is most i usually hear from a herd of 50 or so when they decide to pack up and leave because some guy is tramping through 3 ridges over. When I was a kid elk were about 50 times more likely to come to a gas pipe bugle.
Today you are about 50 times more likely to hear other hunters calling elk.
I think elk Today are very different than ancient elk. In my lifetime elk behavior has changed drastically at least on public land, in and out of the rut.

I agree, I've only been at this elk hunting for 13 years. In that time certain areas I've hunted a lot the elk have changed how they respond and react to calling in a big way. When I was a kid elk were about 50 times more likely to come to a gas pipe bugle.
