Anyone know where I can get my hands on some 209 powder? I can’t seem to find any in stock. I’ve had success finding scam websites, but nothing from the big box stores. Thanks in advance

In the recent past I've been able to get cabelas to ship it to a store "close" to you if that's an option...without the hazmat fee.

I'm not sure of the black powder substitutes, but in talking with a local black powder business owner he told me that unlike smokeless powder, actual black powder has a more restricted transportation requirement due to it being an explosive.

He claims that he pays over double for shipping vs smokeless powder.

It's been in stock at every store ive looked at ML gear the last few weeks. Scheels in MN and MT and Runnings in MN.

Black is that way. All the other powders are classified differently, IIRC.

that's crazy. The money a guy spends developing a load and sighting in a smokeplole is crazy with this stuff. I can't believe a competitive alternative has not come out.
I’m glad I worked my loads up years ago and I only need an ounce a year or so. At $4.00 a shot I don’t practice with my muzzleloader much.

Pyrodex works well for practice if a person feels the need.

Federal came out with the Fire stick which is just as expensive and needs a special rifle that really is more of a cartridge gun except that you load the bullet from the muzzle. They will not sell that exclusive powder as a loose powder. Can you say cahoots? No thanks. I'll keep using 777. I do not mind getting trigger time. A lot of expensive bullets out there also for muzzies. I've been playing with Fury bullets and they are not quite as expensive. To slow this stuff down, the Game dept's could just say all muzzies are iron sights and lead only bullets or roundballs with loose powder. Sorry, going off on a tangent again. We are headed to a one critter any weapon future.

I’m almost through the first jug I bought a couple years ago. Still feels cheap compared to centerfire even though the bullets are $2 a pop too.

I think Blackhorn 209 was the competitive alternative until Hodgdon bought Western out.

Anyone experimented with the Shooters World Multi Purpose Black? I have a pound to mess with but haven't tried it yet.

I still think it's worth the price, even though its $176 per pound, which puts it at $2.11 per shot for me. Projectiles are another $2.56 per shot. Primers another $0.09. So at $4.76 per shot that's in line with some of the premium ammunition brands for big cartridges.

Luckily I bought 6 bottles a couple years ago to burn a gift card. I doubt I'll ever have to buy more if I only use it for hunting.
