I have some areas picked out in/near the Bitterroots W of hwy 93. Anyone have any first hand knowledge of this area? I know it's a big area, just curious on the bear density or would looking E of 93 be better? Feel free to pm if you'd like. Thanks!

Plenty of bears on both sides. There had been a griz on the ID side last spring, he moved on but don't be surprised if another shows. Two years ago we had a griz at Lee Metcalf Refuge the think came from the Rock Creek drainage.

Lots of bears on both sides like 406 says. I will add that the terrain is much more difficult to hunt on the W side of 93. E side more hilly and open.

My old roommate and I ran into some free spirits on Trapper Peak and up near Bear Creek Pass back in my college days. I don’t remember if we saw any bears.
