I know some of y'all, based on user names, that frequent the online versions of newspapers across Montana and comment on relevant issues. As of this afternoon, the Gazette instituted a new policy for online comments. You have to be logged into your facebook account (oy) and comment as that user, rather than the anonymous username you registered with. They are doing this as a means to crack down on much of the derogatory trolling that has been taking place ( I have additional tinfoil hat speculations about motives). Not that everyone with an account is an accurate name, but hey, they will weed out most people that way.
So as of this afternoon when they implemented this program, it reset all the comments on articles back to zero. So just a heads up of how you will have to post comments from now on and what has happened to the previous comments, as well as a forewarning to anyone spouting erroneous bullshit with nothing to back it up - theres some accountability now. And be careful, in case you are not familiar with it, there is a little box below the comment box, check it IF you want your post to be additionally posted to your facebook feed and leave unchecked if you dont.
The other sister newspapers of Missoulian and Helena Independent have not implemented this yet.
