My partner recently put up a game camera where deer have been entering and leaving a pasture. This photo shows all the was left when he went to check it earlier today. No sign of the sapling or the camera. Thankfully, it was one of those cheap, $25 cameras.

I've had beef with beavers for 20+ years. Started at a very young age pulling apart dams where they backed up water on the property. Over 20 years later and I'm still beefing with them! Have almost lost a couple of cameras to them in a similar fashion.

That's actually pretty funny.

Take up trapping now?

Sucks about losing the camera.

Any others in the area?

One of two that have been frequenting a nearby pond for several weeks now. I have photos dating back several years and most of the time I suspect they've been hanging along a creek that passes through the area. But it's been very dry for the last couple of months so I suspect they're coming to the pond for food and water. No sign of any damage to the pond.

Meanwhile in Colorado we have a “beaver working group” which is really just a mechanism for the anti-hunting/trapping crowd to eliminate consumptive use. Likely originated with an “informal” edict coming down from the Governor's office, Colorado Wildlife Czar-Marlon Reis.

In case you were wondering, no, beavers are not endangered or even a threatened species in Colorado. It’s never about conservation here, it’s about placating the animal rights extremist minority who wield dominant influence with the ruling party.

Oh. I meant any more cameras to see the deer

I'm a fan of beavers. They're a pretty important part of the landscape where I live and create a lot of hunting and fishing opportunities for people and other critters. That said, one of these days, I'm going to shoot one. I'm pretty curious about eating them.

They’re very tasty. Definitely one of my favorite critters. I’d definitely recommend trapping a couple, have a few good meals, get the pelts tanned, and sew up a pair of mittens.

Check your game regs first. I think most states it’s illegal to shoot a beaver. You can trap them in most states with proper license.
