Donnie and I headed up to check our new bait site on Thursday afternoon, in the middle of an absolute downpour. Fortunately, the rain subsided about the time we headed into the bait. Much to our excitement, we found that our bait had FINALLY been visited by something other than foxes, raccoons, and ravens!

This beautiful cinnamon bear had snooped around for 25-30 minutes, but didn't touch any of the bait.

Checking the trail camera, we found that the bear had actually been at the bait when we pulled up in the truck, and likely heard us heading down the trail (the last picture of the bear was taken 20 minutes before we showed up).

We were hopeful it had just ran over the hill and might come back in, so we quickly added some bait to the pile (runts, spree's, Jack Link's beef sticks, etc) and climbed the stand. We waited until dark, however, shivering uncontrollably, with no luck.

Donnie headed home Thursday night to coach some baseball and Dave P. drove up Friday afternoon to join the fun. When we arrived at the bait site, we found we had 2 new bears in the area...however, the cinnamon hadn't been back.

Saturday night was more of the same...

The two black bears came back in at their regularly scheduled times (11PM and 3:30AM), but nothing showed up during shooting light.

It was amazing that they weren't eating much at all. My guess is they are still out eating grass and haven't started in on the solids yet. We have 300 pounds of bread with 20 gallons of grease, 100 pounds of glazed donuts, beef, candy, marshmallows, you name it. The only thing any of them nibbled on was the Krispy Kremes...and not much of that.

I'm hoping they get hungry this week and decide to start eating! That might spur them to start coming in during the daylight as well!

It takes a while for them to get the system going.. Once they get the system going though they usually hammer the crap out of it. the pics are hard to tell fo me, I suck at guessing bears anyways. At any rate, the Belly looks close to the ground and it looks Purdy !!

Cory, thanks for the Pics !!!
