Warning…a few graphic photos ahead…

Had a great opening weekend at my lease in the Texas Hill Country. We are about 2 hours west of San Antonio.

Killed two hogs and a doe. The first hog and doe were both taken with my 629 and hand loaded 240 Sierras over H110. The second hog was taken with my FA 97 in 41 magnum and hand loaded XTPs over H110. Both hogs were taken with head shots at about 65 yards. Hogs are about the only bigger animal I will attempt head shots on. Normally I’m adamantly against them. The second hog was hit just below the left ear - the bullet entered, made a hard left turn, and exited the forehead.

Way to go! I do miss hunting hogs. It was always a very welcome addition to my freezer.

It’s pretty bad. We had a good rain about a week or two ago and that helped but overall, still very dry.
Yep, pretty bad up in San Saba area. There’s been some rain but summer was one of the worst in years. I haven’t even got too excited about deer hunting this year.

It’s on my bucket list to kill a deer with a handgun, killed a handful of hogs with one.
