I finally got drawn for a Bull Elk in unit 5A. I have camped up in the area with my family near C.C Cragin and Bear Lake a few times but do not have an extensive knowledge of the unit. I have check out the unit on OnX maps and Google Earth and it looks like the entire unit has roads crossing it. I did a mule deer hunt last year in unit 9 and was impressed by the amount of road hunting.
Does anyone know where in this unit I can find some large blocks of road-less terrain before I start scouting this year. I am not much of a road hunter and would like to find some areas I can experience a more wilderness style hunt.
I am also open to any information anyone can give me about the patterns and habits of the elk in the area. I also would love to hear any stories of anyone who has hunted here!
