Draft Agenda (What We Might Talk About)

1. Roosevelt Lake Issues (30 minutes)

(a) Runoff from Rodeo-Chediski Fire; (b) drought-related issues; (c) outreach advocating consumptive use of certain size classes (“Catch and Keep”); (d) Autumn 2002 netting and creel surveys; (e) AGFD game plan for analyzing effectiveness of slot limit program; and (f) Salt River Project development of Habitat Conservation Plan regarding willow flycatcher habitat.

2. Commission Order 40 (30 minutes)

Proposed changes for 2003. Commission Order 40 defines bag and possession limits for sportfishing in Arizona. Each year, the Department reviews it with the public and proposes appropriate changes for consideration at the October Commission meeting. Background information is available at www.azgfd.com).

3. Lake Pleasant Issues (10 minutes)

(a) Bill Luke Big Bass Days (Larry Riley will report on discussions with the Tournament manager, and his own insights from the 2002 Bass Master Classic in Birmingham, Alabama), (b) possible development of a tournament for striped/white bass; (c) on-site fishing clinics; (d) AGFD plans for adaptive angler/boating management as boating population increases.

4. Trout Issues (10 minutes)

(a) brief update on Apache trout recovery; (b) brief update on Gila trout recovery; and (c) brief update on Lee’s ferry issues.

5. State Records Issues (10 minutes)

(a) purchase and placement of certified scales; (b) need for more scales; (c) possible program for Catch-and-Release state records; and (d) possible program for Juniors State Records.

6. Round Tables (10 minutes)

(a) purpose – content/target audience; (b) increasing participation; and (c) measuring success.

7. Other Business, Concluding Remarks, Date and Location for Next Round Table, Adjournment, and Clean-up (10 minutes)

Central Arizona lakes fishing regulations enforcement: Interagency planning and priorities -- Who patrols the water?, When?, and Why?; Angler compliance; Boater compliance; Safety outreach (and CPR classes on-site for anglers); and a “Donuts for Deputies” program.

Drought issues for Arizona lakes and rivers: Water levels; Water quality; Rain dances and other possible solutions
