Anyone loading their .300 WSM down to '06 or .308 levels?

Yall do remember this was actually a factory ammo concept too right? I recall the RUM ammo coming in three hotness levels.

I've been wanting to purchase a ultralight in .300 wsm, I would also like to know if a light reload can produce .308 perf. It's not rare in montana to see that elk shot just a little to far to attempt with .308. I don't want to take a deer with a .300wsm. It would be nice to use as dual purpose and if I need a .300wsm shot I can load, adjust scope and take the shot.. Whats the point of going ultralight and packing multiple rifles esp. when you invest 1000's in rifle and optics...

Sounds like you need a .30-06.

Most guys don't pack multiple rifles while hunting. I have a Kimber 8400 Montana 300 WSM and it will kill anything that I want, deer, elk, doesn't matter. Not like it will blow the shoulder off a deer.

I can’t imagine worrying that a 300wsm is too much for deer or that a 308 won’t perform on elk but a 300wsm will. I have both and have shot a lot of animals with them. I’m not shooting elk at 500 yards with either of them, and would think twice at 400. Both are more than capable at those ranges.

I’ve never walked up to a dead animal and thought, I should have used a smaller gun. I shot duiker with a 375 and a number of other smaller animals.

I have questioned my choice of bullet a few times but never my choice of cartridge.

But hot-rodding is manly. Suggesting you might reduce a load is clearly threatening to some people. Might as well wear a dress for cripes sake.
Well I never wear a dress but I shoot and load my 300wsm, recoil is not an issue foe me, 5'6" 124 lbs. Maybe you should wear a dress so you can take the recoil from a 300wsm, lol.

If you have to limit yourself due to recoil concerns, shoot what you like, know your limits and learn to get closer. Its not rocket science.

As I said - clearly threatening to some people.
Nope just calling out your effeminate putdowns. I shoot a 300wsm and load my rounds kind of hot, maybe I could load some down for you so it doesn't hurt when you shoot it. How about that ??
You are no threat at all just showing your "colors" as they say.

You had your answer at post 8. (Common sense reloading) other people's experience will mean little to your gun.
You are clearly looking for a debate and a pot to stir.
I don’t think he’s bright enough to figure out a lady just told him to put on a dress and maybe that would help him with the recoil.

Not as much as you're showing yours. I have no issues with the recoil from my 300 WSM. In fact, I enjoy shooting that rifle. But I won't always be the only one shooting it, and hell, we're intelligent animals so why not use all the options we have available to us. You can load down a larger cartridge but you can't load up a smaller one. So which one is more versatile?

I know you'll find this hard to believe, but I learn from asking questions of people who might have more experience than I do. And yes, I'm aware that creates an opening for hateful people, especially online where everyone is so eager to sound clever or score points. That is on full display here.

Just so you understand, this is an example of a helpful, adult response: "60% rule with 4895"

With all do respect.
That's the answer, try it. Not comfortable with %60? Then do as I said and use the book minimum and see if it works in your gun.
Again, with all due respect.
If you cant make sense of the responses you have received in this thread then you shouldn't be reloading ammo. Maybe try to find a mentor because you seem to want someone to hold it for you and shake it after.
