If so, what barrel length do you have and what loads have worked for you? I finally found a 22" Ruger and will load both the 180 NAB and the older 200 NBT. I'm not a LR Hunter, I don't shoot at unwounded game past 375 or so. Mostly I hunt the edges of Aspen and Black Timber with an occasional hayfield thrown in! ha

OK, for on Game results, let's try this another way...who has used the old 338/06 or 338/06 Improved? forget the powder/charges, what bullets do you use?

I have a light weight 338-06 built on a Rem 700 action, fun rifle to carry, but recoil is pretty stout with 225 gr Partitoons. Switched to 200 gr Accubonds and 185 gr TTSX bullets. Took an elk with with the Accubond, very pleased with the performance. Lately I’ve been shooting 185 gr TTSX bullets, very accurate, and plenty power.

I’ve had the 338 rcm and a few 338-06. The RCM had a 20” barrel. The 338-06s have had 22-24” barrels. I’ve always used h4350 with them. I ran 225 grain accubonds in my 338-06s and 338rcm with enough h4350 under them to get 2650-2700fps. Need a good drop tube though. If I was going to build a 338 cal in that velocity window “I’m a 338-06 whore” I’d look at the 213 grain hammer hunter. I bet you could push them 2800fps.

I've got one in a 300 RCM. Didn't like Hornady ammo at all. When I started to reload it became a shooter but had to drive the bullets hard and fast although. 1/2 a grain under max with Superpreformance powder and 150 Barnses TTXS produced .7 inch groups.
