Anyone else hunt with a .257 Roberts?

Really nice bit of lumber on that one!

Indeed! I looked for quite a few years before I found it. Of the wood-stocked 84M Rob's I've seen, I'd put it in the top four or five.

Here's the best example I've ever seen:

I've a soft spot for quarter-bores but haven't owned nor operated a Roberts. An -06 was my first rifle purchase & have a wby mag in safe keep....both well furnished, fast, & accurate. I know more than a few damn good hunters with .257 Roberts who swear by them.

My family has been .257 Roberts fans for 60+ years. Dad's first rifle was a 760 pump that I later shot a black bear and my first buck with when I was 12. Also have a Remington 700 Mtn rifle that has never been shot, a Browning BLR and a Remington 722. We prefer handloaded 117 grain bullets.

Would you consider selling the 257 roberts mountain rifle?

Enjoy the load dev! I found that 43.0 gr. of H4350 and a 117 SGK (*2800 fps, 20” bbl) was everything I wanted…and became my standard.

47.0 of H4350 and a 100 gr. SGK worked as well (3000 fps…).

PS: pix? Would love to see that Kimber!
Sorry to take so long to reply. I have been out of tow.

For me. There is no better rifle. I just weighed it and it weighs 6.6 lbs with scope and sling and 3 rounds in the mag. I really like going back country and deep and this rifle is my enabler.

So far we have concluded that it really likes 34 grains of IMR 4895 for 110 grain Hornady Interlocks.

Next we are going to refine it to seating depths.

Have a Ruger RL...ultra light. With a vari x 3 2.5 x 8 on it.

Still figuring out what it shoots best. Gotta try some Winchester and Remingtons next, it wasn't too keen on Nosler Accubond or the fast Hornadys.

Would love a 700 Mtn Rifle or Winchester featherweight in Bob but dont see many of the former and they seem to want a lot for both of them.

I like the old classics but it's a great lighter kicking round with enough power to handle bigger deer...one of the grandkids will get it someday.

I had a model 700 rebarrelled into a 257 bob for my son, shoots 100 grs pretty dang good. He has taken several deer and javelina with it. Its a great caliber.

Excellent deer and antelope caliber. I've owned two. Currently have the Ruger Hawkeye.
