I sold my 7x57 to get a 280. I sold my 280 to get a 280 AI. It was in super light Kimber Hunter and a tack driver.

It bored me. I sold it. Now I am looking for a classic 7x57 again.

Anyone have positive words about the 7x57 to mitigate my madness. I mean,,, why not just get a 7mm-08???

I've been playing with a 6mm Remington, and appreciating the old Mauser lineage back to 7x57. Its a pretty cool, historical cartridge, no reason not to go with one.

I think you answered your own question “I mean,,, why not just get a 7mm-08???”

The only way I’d lean 7x57 would be if I found a special rifle in it. Like a Ruger #1 or maybe one of the Hawkeye Africans stamped 275 Rigby instead. You already got rid of the best option the 30-06 case ever inspired 😂

In modern rifles with a cautious approach it can be handloaded to run with a 280, at least with the 140s and 150s. 7x57 has greater case capacity than the 708.
I’m leaving the house in just an hour with a 7x57 loaded with 150s at 2950 for an elk hunt. Pretty sure it’ll work just fine. It’ll also go to Africa this spring for a Southern Greater Kudu.
Mine is a #1 stamped .275 Rigby. 100 and 400 yard targets.
