Any ice yet?

Skimmed over for a few days then it disappeared with the warm up. Won't take long when things turn again.

I checked the high country and it had 2” then it opened back up. Now it might be socked in with snow.

Probably next week. In 2022 we had close to a foot by this time. I took the sled out and caught a limit of pike

Two (17 year old) ice fisherman had to be rescued after breaking through 1” of ice last week in over in Minnesota lakes country. The week before a duck hunter drowned while swimming out to rescue his dog that had become hung up on the thin ice while retrieving a duck. One happy ending. One very sad ending.

Saw skim ice on a cattle tank this morning. Expecting small water to start freezing by the end of the month with the cold snap coming, but I think we’ll need a week of single digits to get fishable ice anywhere.

Des Moines area I don’t recall a milder fall ever. Our family’s winter hats and gloves aren’t out of storage yet. Just two hard frosts so far. I have broccoli and carrots growing, and my radishes are ready to harvest. Still need to mow my lawn one more time. A week ago I shot my buck in t-shirt weather, and packed it out shirtless 2 hours after dark. First real cold front rolling in Weds, finally.

Driving around here in Montana yesterday I saw some folks ice skating on a lake. I probably shouldn't mention which one it was but I don't even know the name of it so there's that.

Yesterday, north of Tiber, we were in -17* and 6" of snow, calling coyotes. The lake was too low to launch a boat, even if it was not freezing on the edges.
