A couple guys I know put this video together in an attempt to help opposition grow against a proposed Bill in the Alberta Legislature to put Game farms under the control of Agriculture and re name wildlife on such farms as domestic livestock. There is a possible loophole to allow hunting such farms in the future. Any critiquing from you guys would be appreciated.

I'm all for private property rights but the outbreak and transmission of CWD and TB are great enough that these practices need to end. Its all to often we hear about penned deer and elk testing postitive for CWD or someone cutting the fences and "freeing" what have essentially become livestock and then spreading disease.

When people pull the private property rights argument against you, ask them this.

If the risks of disease transmission, escapement, etc. are so low, go and get bonded and insured for such possibilities and we will call it good.

Here is what will happen. The risk experts in the bonding and insurance business will tell them that it is an astronomical risk being insured and therefore the premiums will be beyond what the pen shooting operators can afford.

They will then come back and say that the insurance is too expensive and not feasible.

If the risk experts who specialize in measuring risk likelihood and potential damages find the risk to be that high, why should your citizens take on that risk created by these penned shooting operations.

That argument was used in Montana. They have no rebuttal. They want to flex the property rights muscle, but then ask for the government to bear all the risk these operations impose on us.

It is quickly pointed out to be a welfare argument and the hypocrisy of screaming about property rights while asking for a welfare handout becomes very obvious.

Good luck in your efforts. These operations need to start paying their own way in terms of risks. If so, they would quickly be out of business due to free market issues. They could not charge enough for any animal to cover the cost of bonding and insurance. Their only option is to ask you, as the citizens, to cover the costs and risks they place upon you.

Thanks, not bad for some guys from the sticks. Big Fin we will add your twist on the matter into our arsonal.
We've dug our trenches and are as vocal as we can be to try and stall this latest Bill that's already at in second reading before we found out about it. The way I see it some of our polititions are using thier political power to further thier own personal agrenda's. Is this a new concept? We are in an election run right now so we may be able to slow the progress so we can muster more support from the rank and file.

Just the idea of shooting someones livestock is good enough for me...then the CWD argument and some biology and wow! When ever there are large populations in close confinement the risk factor for disease is greatly increased. I still believe we will have cases of CWD in free roaming natural environments but the risks will be greatly reduced.
