I am not much of an antelope aficionado, I know some bucks in the area that are already shedding. My question is do the better bucks generally shed first or is it random?

I guess I would also like to hear if anybody has seen a real good antelope early November. Seems like they have been shedding early the last couple years.

Buddy shot a mid 70's antelope Nov 7th a few years back, went to pick up the head and one sheath popped off, grabbed the other side and it popped off as well.
I'll be out next week with an antelope tag, hopefully a few still running around that haven't shed.

I deer hunt a area i leave for Wednesday that has lots of lope. Every year the resident herd of pronghorn bucks loose horn sheaths while i am hunting during first week of november. Easy to find along high usage trails, never noticed trend related to size just a lot loose them during that period.

I shot an upper 70s inch antelope buck the last day of the MT season one year. When I grabbed his horns to move him around for field dressing, the sheath popped off in my hand.

I was told by a guy today it has to do with temperatures below freezing is there any truth to that?

Always that one guy huh? 🤣

I killed this booner on November 12, six years ago. High of 20 degrees that day with about a 30 mile and hour wind. I know this isn't a big antelope but I can't imagine size has anything to do with it.

I think it’s based on the animals’ hormones not the weather at all. I’ve always assumed it was the bigger bucks that shed first and usually a good idea to hunt before late October. I’ve had them pull right off several times the 3rd week of October.

Have you ever seen or shot a good one late?
