It takes 9 ft of cordage to make 1 sq ft of 3" mesh netting, so the result is 1700 sq ft of netting made from the hammock. Wonder why so many think a 60 sq ft gillnet is worth taking, but 1700 ft of netting is not worth making? 
the gillnet that they take is 1.5" mesh, if you want such small mesh, you can either overlay 2 segments of the net and stitch thru them here and there, making 800 sq ft of 1.5" mesh, or you can weave in splits of local roots, vines, reeds, shoots, or strips of bark and have 1700 sq ft of 1.5" mesh. Such stuff suffices for net pens, but not for gillnetting or seining.
