A question of sectional density and conventional norms

If you bring that up with Cutting Edge, they will flat out tell you if THEIR bullet says 1:8, then 1:9 won't stabilize it!
I listened to the Hammer guys on a podcast last night with Adam Weatherby. Among other things, they discussed twist rate and stabilization. Steve made the point that their twist rate is to keep the bullet and on its original trajectory AFTER it impacts. That was something I never really thought of before.

Their line of thinking is design for the terminal ballistics and work back. So the twist rates for their stuff are to keep the bullet mass, minus the petals, somewhat stabilized and heading in the same direction after impact.
