I wasn't really expecting this today, considering we had snow on yesterday. I was mostly just getting out, checking a few of my early morel spots to see how the ground looked. Another week, and hopefully no more snow, they will be up good. Only 12 today, but it's a start. One i wasn't really expecting.

Wish I was out doing this but we have over 1ft of thick ice snow in central Minnesota and they are predicting we will be getting more this Friday. Only a week and a half left until turkey opener and I fully expect there to be a foot of snow left.

Cool. Another blizzard here today.

Tried shed hunting yesterday, but there is so much snow. 4 inches every three days messes everything up.

I"ve seen pics of a few in far SW IN, but nothing up this way yet. My FIL doesn't start looking for them until his asparagus patch starts sprouting. It wasn't sprouting as of Easter weekend...

Impressive! It still looks (and feels) like February in Minnesota. Temps dipped below zero last week and we got more snow last night. Average ice out on the lake near my house is April 6th and there is still 24" of ice on it right now. Good to see someone is getting spring!

We had snow again here this morning. It is liable to be a screwed up season for them. The morels, at least from my experience, don't tolerate wide swings in temperatures too well. From what I understand, there are certain soil temperature ranges when they grow. The early blacks, like the one in the picture are always my first. Then I start finding greys. Then yellows. The tall free-standing morels (called hickory jacks or a certain part of a dogs anatomy around here, lol) are the last ones I find. If you get wide temperature swings, the different ones are all interspersed and up at the same times; none are present in large numbers. I'm hoping the weather avoids the swings this year. It is supposed to be 81 this coming Saturday. It is 35 today....

Can't wait to find some. Going out tomorrow to try. Ive heard of a few guys finding them here in VA.
