Ok just purchased a Christensen Ridgeline in 6.5prc I cant wait for this waiting period so I can put some rounds through it but I'm looking forward to hearing from some of you the best course of action on breaking it in?? Also what do you know about this round good and bad I followed a friends recommendation ??
 
Congrats! I have the same model, great rifle. I generally followed the break-in prescribed by CA and have only used Hornady Precision Hunter 143gr. Accuracy has been around .5 MOA. I had poor ejection with mine and CA sent me a stiffer extractor that resolved the issue. Enjoy!
 
If you reload, put yourself on the ADG notification list for their cases. They’re not always in stock, but it will come back sooner or later. Honestly, I bought a box of cases, but have been happy enough with Hornady to just shoot factory loads. No argument from what’s going into the freezer!

Got an email on Friday from them stating a restock Not sure if they still have the inventory but they did.

Appreciate the feed back.... I checked my local retailer yesterday and wanted to start stock piling some boxes and there was nothing on the shelf. And the line at Bass Pro to buy ammo was a 2 hour wait NO THANKS its ridiculous
 
In my opinion it has near perfect case capacity for the .264” bore. I’d be surprised if a 26 Nosler beat it substantially in the real world if they were loaded to the same pressure with optimal powders, had equal barrel lengths, and were fired over the same chrono back to back.

Break-in? Don’t fire too many shots without cleaning it for the first 10-50 shots. The old one shot/one clean break-in routine is probably a little excessive. Shoot 2-10 shots, brush it good, patch it good. If you don’t see a ton of copper coming out, then don’t worry about it. If it seems to be fouling excessively that will usually change pretty quickly, then you can go to a normal cleaning routine.

Adg has some 6.5 prc brass in stock right now. Is it worth $2.00 each?

Following here as I'm gonna be loading for a friend who just bought one in a Bergara. He's thinking of 140 or 156 bergers. H 1000??

Assuming a 6.5-284 could hit 3000fps with a 140gr bullet(might be a little aggressive on that assumption) 93/67=1.39 -> 39/4=9.75 -> 1.0975x3000= 3292fps. That’s actually quite close to published Nosler data using a 28” barrel. Plenty of guys shooting 30” 6.5-284s meet or exceed 3000fps. A 6.5-284 has almost the same case capacity as a 6.5 PRC.


I’d suggest it’s probably coincidence though. The percent change in case capacity compared to muzzle velocity is not linear. The 6.5 PRC is getting pretty close to the portion of the curve that starts getting pretty flat. I’ve hit 3300fps using 140gr bullets in a 6.5x257Rob AI that holds 61gr H2O.
93/61=1.53 -> 53/4=13.25 -> 1.1325x3000= 3737fps. Anyone out there reporting 3737fps from a 26 Nosler with 140gr bullets? I had to knock it down to 3175 to get groups under 1”. 1.1325x3175=3596fps. Anyone reporting 3596fps with 140s?

Hornady publishes a 143ELD running 2960fps from a 24” barreled 6.5 PRC. Nosler uses 28” barrels for their 26 Nosler data. Increasing the PRC barrel to 28” should yield a muzzle velocity of about 3120fps, possibly 3150fps+. Is 150fps significant compared to the cost of powder and barrel life? Depends on the person. You can burn up a 26 Nosler barrel during load development.

Nosler lists a 6.5 Rem Mag, which is very close to a 6.5 PRC, pushing a 140 at 3060 from a 24” barrel. Adjusted for barrel length that’s around 3220fps. Is that 26 Nosler worth an extra 80fps?

Anyone cut a 26 Nosler to 24” and chronographed it beside a 6.5 PRC?

Unknown Munitions offers awesome 6.5 PRC (plus tons of other cartridges) ammunition. HIGHLY recommended!

I just heard about them a couple weeks ago and plan on contacting them to get some ammo for 6.5cm and 30-06. Some of their standard loads look like good prices compared to good factory ammo. Having them as an option for working up some other loads would be nice since reloading has been low on my list of things to DIY.

The comparison with your wildcat assumes that pressure is the same...

I caveated my post with as a "rough rule of thumb". John Barsness has written quite on the 4:1 ratio and is where I learned about it. IIRC, he used SAAMI load data from reloading manuals to come up with the theory. It's close enough for me.

My brass doesn’t magically handle more pressure than 26 Nosler brass, which is spec’d about as high as most cartridge brass can handle at 65ksi MAP and 69.1ksi MPSM. The rule of thumb is good for cartridges that don’t get too close to the edge. The idea of bore capacity is based on the fact that the curve eventually flattens enough that meaningful increases come at great cost or not all. The curve is pretty near flat in 24” long, .264” barrels by around 62-68gr H20 capacity. The primary reason that the 26 Nosler stands out is the 28” barrel.
 
All the load data on Nosler’s website for the 26 Nosler shows a 26 inch barrel.

You didn't mention how long your barrel is, but a 140gr at 3300 FPS is 264 Win Mag +P territory out of an improved X57 case...
