Anyone on here have much experience with this round? I impulse bought a used Winchester model 70 in 358 Winchester. Curious about others experience with them

That would’ve gotten me, too. Should be a hell of a bear or elk rifle. What bullet you thinking?

Not sure why the 338’s and 358’s never caught on.

I just built one on a savage axis, Shaw 20" fluted threaded muzzle.
I'm getting a bit better than an inch group at 100 and 2390°FPS, with a Hammer 215 THH.
The only thing I shot with it so far was a 4x4 whitetail buck at 280-ish yards. Crushed both front shoulders. No tracking needed.

what kind of drop are you getting between 2-300 yards? 200 yard zero?

I zeroed at 2" high at 100. I can hit my 8" gong at 300 by aiming at the top of the gong.
When I shot the deer, I was still on hair with my crosshairs. It's not a dial-up scope or have hash marks.
It hit dead center shoulder.

I think the 178 Stone Hammer would be excellent in the 358 Win. Don't need to be concerned with high BC with the range of that cartridge. It will perform a lot better than the 220 TTSX in my opinion.

a few friends have the 358 an old school 35-08 and love them. A great woods gun.

I hunt with a .358 Winchester Ruger M77. Been shooting 200gr Barnes TSX. I don't reload so I buy them, but it's 2675 fps at the muzzle. Zeroed at 200 yds it's 2.1" high at 100 and 8.9" low at 300. It's sexy and puts holes in things. All these were one shot and it was over.
