MIGHT knock down some of our severe drought level starting Monday night. Forecasting rainy weather for over a week. I'll take it all. It's nasty dry here. 70 and windy today doesn't help. Got the Harley out and went for a nice ride. Wind wasn't too bad unless I met a semi. Then it was hold on! Still don't plan on a garden besides the asparagus patch. Not much point just for me. I'll plant a bunch of flowers again where the wife did along the house.

I went out to cut raspberry canes today. All 3 bee hives have survived! All the artichokes survived too!
Boxes are normally frozen this time of year but I can stick my fingers deep in the boxes. I may plant peas soon. Maybe a lettuce box start.

Potatoes are in. 24 total planted, a mix of russet and Yukon gold. Also cleaned up and spread pine straw around the beds. And demo'd the pond that we've never really liked since we moved in here. I think strawberries are going to go there. 
Dang. I know that store. That’s sad.

I planted some onions today and was going to plant some Spinach, Swiss chard and Beets but after getting the soil all tilled and prepped, I decided to wait until tomorrow.

I just ordered cold-climate seeds from Alaska and potatoes from Maine. We are at 7100’ so it’s mostly root veggies, peas and cabbages. I had volunteer peas last year so decided to try planting my old pea seeds in the fall.
I get great satisfaction from saving as many of my own seeds as I can: potatoes, peas, marigolds and most wildflowers come up like champs!
A greenhouse is nice until it blows away.

Snow in the forecast the next 5 days so it’s hard to even think about a garden yet. This year I’m keeping it simple. Sweet corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, and some flowers for my wife and daughter.
This is the first year I can start harvesting from my asparagus patch, so I’m looking forward to that. I’m also anxiously waiting to see how my 2 year old fruit tree orchard came through winter.
I have a lot of prairie to burn this spring and am planting quite a few trees, so keeping the garden simple will definitely help make it less stressful and more enjoyable.

85 today and tomorrow. Low of 29 Thursday, possibly down to 24 next week. Peach tree is in full bloom and the persimmon tree may not have survived the winter. Lettuce I planted from seed is starting to sprout. Pond is filled in and ready for strawberry plants. I may audible and put watermelons there though.

We should have pretty good ground moisture to start the year when all this snow melts in a month or two. We plan to till some new ground and start expanding our garden this year.

After a brief entertainment of putting watermelon in the old pond spot, I finally settled on the original idea of strawberries. Picked up 3 transplants from the garden supply today.

Yes, I save my own seed stock whenever possible!
Sweet peas. Acorn squash, Winter squash and pole beans of my grandfathers that he saved every year since the 1930's!

I finally have a pic to share, got Walla Walla sweets and sweet peas in today.
Culivated and composted my Marion berries and planted a couple more Blueberry bushes bring my expanding Blueberry patch to 8 plants.

Raised the height of beds in the new greenhouse or as I call it Cobble Stone Henge then filled them up with compost and installed self opening vent.
Now I need to get seeds started. Going to 60's today 70's for the next 3 days then dropping to the 50's. Night temps are still in the 30's to teens. Also need to repair a frost free hydrant. Really need to start watering everything.

Cold here today , but things are looking better after that rude freeze we suffered last month !
Wife wanted to try some Rhubarb, not sure about it .
Two Pineapples survived and I’m super excited about that!
Strawberries are doing ok , taste great !
Only one tomato plant made it , but the Bananas survived.
Avocado tree is in full bloom but the Mango is looking punk-ish ?
