I feel like his consistent big dollars over an extended time - as well as the splashy marketing spin he pushed for - made the Ducks consistently relevant even though they did not have a strong starting brand. But that is only a piece of the puzzle - the coaches and players still have to hit to field and do it. Lot's of school with "relevance" in their brand have lagged behind for years - looking at you Nebraska

Ya I remember back in 95 when Oregon broke through and got to the Rose Bowl and lost to Penn St , it got everyone fired up , it got Phil Knights attention and it started the conversation on what Oregon needed to continue its success and the Ducks said an indoor practice facility, because kids didn’t want to practice outside in that crap NW weather, so uncle Phil gave them the money to get it built ,and that was the start of Oregons 30 year journey to get to yesterday

Nebraska is in, well, Nebraska. I don't think they've got a long list of multimillion dollar donors lining up to give that team some pizzazz, or big time recruiting numbers. I happen to really like Nebraska for what it is, a loyal and devoted fan base who turns out for the huskers without fail. Granted there's not much else to do in Nebraska, but it's a storied program with a great fan base.
I'm hopeful but doubtful that the Nebraska's, Iowa's, Purdue's, etc of the B1G and schools like them in other conferences won't get left in the dust with all the NIL $$$$ flying around the elite programs.

Go watch Penn state games over the last 7 or 8 years. Then get back with me before you give me any i watched them in the Big ten championship so i know all about them now takes.

They need to go to 16 teams, no byes, and drop the conference title games. If you are #17 at that point who cares, there will always be a 17, 33, 65, 129, etc.

What are the chances an 8 seed or lower actually wins the whole playoff? (Or even competes for it?) I think not good.

What about a 5 seed?

I don't follow FCS or NFL for that matter...how often does a low seed actually make a run in a football playoff?

I know it can happen in single-elimination basketball (NCAA) but genuinely curious about football...

I hated the 4 team -- lots of years the 5 or 6 would have had a real chance at beating the 1 2 3 or 4. And having to go 10-3 with a decent strength of schedule is hardly "weakening". To have one loss take you out is it not good. I loved seeing the Giants beat the Patriots. If you just want the regular season best win-loss then no need for a playoff at all - just go back to the pre-playoff days.

I have said they should flip the format between FCS and FBS. In FCS 24 teams go, but there are only 6 programs in the nation that have even a 1% chance of winning with 2 of them having 95% chance. There are almost never upsets in the first 3 rounds. It is a waste. Where in the FCS I do think top 16 or 24 would make for some really fun upsets. The nice thing about 24 is that Army would get to play ISU first round, not Oregon, so you actually have some decent first round games. Plus, more games at home stadiums are super fun for the fans.

Agreed, I hated the 4 team as well. What we've got this year is certainly better than that.
There will always be somebody left out, but as we've seen all season long, any given Saturday any team in the country can drop a game to an underdog. I think it's going to be a great playoff season to watch.

@VikingsGuy ill give you this, if I was not a Penn State and watched that game last night I would say those things didn't really matter and that's mostly true, but as a big fan it's hard to overlook this when it's a pattern over years.

Like said, "this is football!" and it's post season play-offs. Anything can happen and athletic players step up to make fantastic plays.

That's a long ways out. But I got my number one wish at the start of the season, some southern boys playing at Beaver in December in a home field playoff game.
