Well we made the 18 hour drive to South Dakota, I still want to live in WY by the way. Stayed at the C’mon Inn, in Casper part way there and my kids loved it and I enjoyed it too. 5 hot tubs had a Koi pond, dang I wish I could have stuck one lol



Made it to SD, 4 days before the tournament. Did lots of scouting and some walleye fishing. Got to shoot my first smallmouth buffalo and gar.

Everything went awesome, except for tournament evening/night. We broke the front main light right at launch, an hour into the tournament I took a bug in my eye going 40mph, wind came up blowing 20mph. We called it at midnight since my eye was swelling shut
It was really unfortunate circumstances. We had found a spot that held a lot of big smallmouth buffalo. We estimated we could’ve had a 30 pound average on 20 fish. The total of the 20 big fish that one it was 488.6 pounds. We would have been well over that.
We have decided though that shooting at night is not what we like to do LOL. I think I’m going to stick to the daylight tournaments.
We ended up driving halfway back on Sunday then finished off our drive yesterday to make it back home, that way I could go to the eye doctor. I had an abrasion to my eye, and a slight infection. Some ice cream and I should be good to go.

It seems kind of crazy to me that it is legal to shoot buffalo. I shot quite a few as a kid, some up to 30 lbs. Then I found out they are a native species and were possibly 4 times older than me, so I quit shooting them. A kid caught one in Fort Peck a year or two ago that biologists said was probably in the river before the dam was built.

There are quite a few of them, in about two hours we counted over 200 that we’re all in the 20 to 50 pound range.

Oh I don’t doubt there were tons of them. It’s just weird to me how it would be a sin to shoot an introduced species like a brown trout but it’s ok to shoot a native species that’s like 40 years old.

SD you can pretty much shoot anything that swims!!!! Wish Idaho was like that!
