2015 CO archery hunt questions

A buddy and I are planning an early season archery hunt in Colorado next fall. We're going out Labor Day weekend and will be out there the whole next week. He's going to get an elk tag, but I'm thinking about applying for a mule deer tag. Will they be in the same areas this time of the year? I don't have a problem getting an elk tag, but I figured if we get into some mulies I'd like to be able to do something about it.

Also, any thoughts on where to go? My initial thought is around Steamboat Springs.

I was in southern Colorado this year a couple weeks later than you will be and saw more muleysnthan than I did elk. I think your chances would be good.
