20 Practical for coyote?

I’m planning a build in 20P as a dedicated night calling gun for coyotes. None of my shooting will ever exceed 300 yards and a VAST majority of my shorts are 150 or less. I’m thinking about a 20” Drew Precision barrel with a 1:10 twist so I can shoot the 39/40 grainers and hopefully have minimal fur damage.

Who has experience with the 20P??

my main attraction to 20P was (basically) free brass and ability to load better bullets. As far as I know, HSM is the only manufacturer that loads 35gr berger HPs for instance. I figured if I’m going to have to handload, it might as well be for something where I can cut cost on brass… beyond that, I just thought it was a cool cartridge

Although…since I’m a low volume shooter, if I bought 100 204R brass I’d likely be set for life

I will add… With a 20P, I won’t care about slinging brass out through the brush in the darkness/snow. If I use a 204, I think I would be more likely to try to find my spent brass.

I will admit that I thought the .204 was just a necked down .223 until this thread. Who knew its parent is the .222 RemMag!

I did!!

Of course if you neck up to 25 caliber and "improve" it you essentially end up with the 257 Kimber.
Supposed to closely duplicate 250 Savage ballistics.

@Booner774,
With how popular the 204 Ruger is, it's not hard or expensive to get casings for it.
Heck, I even find them laying around at the range.
Some people just don't police their brass.
